“ईगल हॅस लँडेड” हे शब्द ऐकताच अमेरिकेतील नासाच्या कंट्रोल रूम  मध्ये एकच जल्लोष पसरला . साक्षात मृत्यूच्या छायेत ३ अंतराळवीरांनी आपले यान सुरक्षितपणे चंद्रावर उतरवले होते .काळ होता २० जुलै १९६९ चा  .८ वर्षाची अथक मेहनत आणि ८ अंतराळवीरांच्या मृत्यूनंतर हा सोहळा सजला होता हेही तितकंच खरं आहे .  नील आर्मस्ट्राँग चंद्रावर पहिले पाऊल टाकणारी पहिली व्यक्ती ठरली होती . त्याच्या बरोबर आल्ड्रिनस हा अंतराळवीर सुद्धा होता आणि कमांडर क्वालिन्स चंद्राभोवती फेऱ्या मारत सर्व कंट्रोल सिस्टिम हाताळत होते . खगोलशास्त्रातील सुवर्णाक्षरांनी कोरली जाणारी जाणारी हि  घटना . याच घटनेला आज ५४ वर्षे पूर्ण होत आहेत . छोट्या अणुबॉम्बशी  तुलना करण्याजोगा रॉकेट  अपोलो ११  ने प्रवास करून मानव जातीने चंद्रावर ठेवलेले पहिले पाऊल . अपोलो ११ हि अमेरिकन संस्था नासा NASA  ची अतीमहत्वाकांक्षी मोहीम होती .

 3. या मोहिमेच्या चाचणी दरम्यान कित्येक बिलियन  डॉलर्स खर्च झाले होते आणि ८ जणांचा मृत्यू झाला होता .

4. अपोलो ११ या रॉकेट मध्ये इगल नावाचे छोटे यान रॉकेट पासून वेगळे होऊन चंद्रावर मानवाला उतरवण्याची  आणि पुन्हा पृथ्वीवर आणण्याची कामगिरी करणार होते .

5.अपोलो ११ या मोहिमेला १९६९ साली  एकूण २५ बिलियन अमेरिकन डॉलर म्हणजेच आताच्या तुलनेत ३०० बिलियन च्या आसपास खर्च म्हणजेच आताच्या भारतीय चलनानुसार २५ कोटी रुपये इतका खर्च आला होता .
